Are you just busy or productive? Do not just gloss over this question, it calls for serious pondering. Of all your activities, how many are producing the intended results? Perhaps it will help to rephrase the question – are you a spectator or a stakeholder? Don’t be in a rush to answer the question. Think through and thoroughly before you answer.

If you want to become efficient and productive, here are some things you should completely avoid;

1: Don’t Lose Focus

Focus is important when it comes to realizing your dreams or achieving what you have set your mind to accomplish. In essence, you should avoid anything or anyone who makes you redirect your attention to some other thing that will not target your ultimate goal effectively.

For instance, if your goal is to cut back business expenses in the first quarter of the year, you should strive to stay focused on this goal. Spending on unproductive processes won’t let you achieve this goal. So, you should keep your eye on money leakage sources, so that you can eventually realize your ultimate goal of reduced expenses.

2: Don’t Joke with Time Management

Time is so precious and time lost can never be regained. Thankfully, there are couple of effective tools that can help you manage your time effectively. These tools include the Pomodoro technique and the Calendar Blocking techniques.

For instance, if you do not earmark time for each task or activity of the day, you can spend all day doing just one task. Bear in mind that you cannot get more than 24 hours in a day. Therefore, you should make most of your time by prioritizing and apportioning duration to each activity in your to-do list.

3: Don’t Trade Your Relaxation Time with Anything

If you do not make out time to rest and rejuvenate, you may relapse in your health. Therefore, make sure you observe your breaks. It is good to have multiple breaks throughout the day. These are usually short breaks in-between tasks. And, during those times, make sure you are relaxing or engaged in relaxation activities such as laughing heartily. Also, you should plan for a mini-cation or vacation once or twice a year.

4: Don’t Procrastinate

Procrastination is a thief of time and a killer of dreams. If you need to get something done now, don’t postpone it to another time with flimsy excuses. Procrastination will not automatically go away; you have to consciously adopt practical steps to fight this productivity inhibitor called procrastination.

5: Don’t Do It All by Yourself

The best of humans are still humans in their very best. There’s a limit to what you have the capacity to do. Therefore, learn to delegate or outsource tasks. Don’t believe the lie that only you can do it better. There’s someone there who can beat you to it.  So, get the help you need.
