Woulda-Shoulda-Coulda; do you recognize those words? It’s easy to look back and wish you “would have” followed a dream or “should have” done something when you had the chance and even “could have” … but you didn’t.
Don’t beat yourself up with the answer. There are people who’ve made it to the end of the line without doing things they’d love to have done and they have just as many reasons as to why they didn’t do them. Here comes a tough question:
Are those reasons substantiated or are they excuses?
For example, some don’t see the sense in leaving a secure job to invest in an idea that might or might not work. On the surface that makes sense, but consider those who decided to play it safe and gave their lives to companies that went out of business or laid them off—right before they were due to collect retirement benefits.
Is the idea of security real or is it a farce?
The truth is, nothing is fool-proof. Life happens and unpredictable circumstances befall us. There are no guarantees. Ever.
If we want to tip the scales in the direction of success, we need to be willing to take the type of action that will support our choices. When we know what we want we can determine what that action is.
Sometimes, even when we’ve taken appropriate action things turn out differently than we planned. That’s a fact of life. But as long as we learn how to go with the flow we maintain control.
